How to Get DoxyPEP Online

DoxyPEP — the single doxycycline dose that prevents syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea after sex — is prescription-only, but the prescription is one of the easiest in telehealth: no lab work is required to start, the medication is a cheap generic, and a supply can sit in your medicine cabinet ready for when you need it.

The short version

  • A telehealth consult (often async — no video required) is enough to get a DoxyPEP prescription in most states.
  • No baseline labs needed, unlike PrEP — though STI testing every 3–6 months is recommended while using it.
  • Generic doxycycline is cheap: a multi-dose supply typically costs under $15 cash.
  • New to DoxyPEP? Read what it is and how to dose it first.

How it works

  1. Consult. You tell a licensed clinician about your sexual health history. CDC guidance targets gay/bi men and transgender women with a bacterial STI in the past year, but prescribers can and do use judgment beyond that floor.
  2. Prescription. Typically written as 200 mg doses with refills — enough to cover you for months of as-needed use.
  3. Keep it on hand. The whole point is having it before you need it: the dose works best taken as soon as possible after sex, within 72 hours.

Good questions to ask at your consult

Whether you book with our reviewing team or another service, five minutes covers it: Should I combine DoxyPEP with PrEP? How many doses per month is reasonable for my situation? What's my STI testing schedule while using it? Any interactions with my current meds (notably isotretinoin, some seizure medications, and antacids/supplements near dosing time — details here)?

Why a real prescription matters

Doxycycline is sometimes bought from fish-antibiotic suppliers or overseas sites. Don't. Beyond purity concerns, the prescription visit is where dosing gets tailored, interactions get caught, and testing gets scheduled — and gonorrhea's partial resistance means DoxyPEP users still need periodic testing. The legitimate route costs a few dollars more and is the difference between a prevention strategy and a guess.
