How it works
- Consult. You tell a licensed clinician about your sexual health history. CDC guidance targets gay/bi men and transgender women with a bacterial STI in the past year, but prescribers can and do use judgment beyond that floor.
- Prescription. Typically written as 200 mg doses with refills — enough to cover you for months of as-needed use.
- Keep it on hand. The whole point is having it before you need it: the dose works best taken as soon as possible after sex, within 72 hours.
